Anyone here know jack shit about P38 suspension?

The old man replaced the height sensors on the P38 (late model Boschy one) and the new sensors need calibrated. I already had the RSW software and appropriate cable and made a set of calibration blocks to sit it at the correct height.

The theory seems simple enough. Set it at the right height, get the readings from the sensors and then plug those numbers as the target heights for the ECU.

The thing is that when you go through the calibration process and then check it the thing has decided to sit at completely different heights and when you ask it what the various sensor heights are the numbers you get back are wildly different. I understand that the ECU will only accept a limited range of numbers and variation between sensors and I don't think I am asking anything daft of it.

The only thing that i nagging is that I suspect he has purchased Chinesium sensors rather than Dunlop ones.

Any ideas?

I have meddled with height sensors on a Lexus, one had rotted through at the adjuster, having replaced the rusty bit it still didnt work properly so replaced it with a new chinesium unit and all is good.
It was just a potientiometer in the sensor and a google alternative search engine says the P38 unit looks functionally identical.

The test suggested is to measure each sensor with a meter and expect a reading of 200 Ohms to 2K Ohms.
Any thing that is outside this range or deviates wildly from the originals may be beacuse the Great Bunch of Lads are using parts modeled on a late 80's Amstrad volume knob.]

Cheers for that. I will go and test them. I was trying to make the thing work last night but it was fucking brass monkeys in the big shed and I was beginning to lose my near legendary sense of humour.

Mine was the same when I changed a sensor. I fucked the blocks off and used a marked measuring stick and altered the height settings a few bits at a time. This was suggested on Landyzone-worked ok-only set standard height-I’ve got to fuck about a little bit more as it very slightly leans to one side-Inthink it’s the cheap sensor I put on.

Just to close this out the Chinesium sensors were thrown in the bin and Dunlop ones purchased (if only someone had said do that in the first place) for about £85 each.

Everything worked fine and it calibrated just like the book says it should. Job jobbed.

Whether the lesson has been learned we will see.

Any cheap slope made sensor is false economy. I speak from experience.
