Alf’s Riley

Post by Alf892 »

At the end of last year my nephew asked me to get a couple of old Riley’s he had inherited running. I think I posted at the time of the day trip to get this done. Both had been stood for around 25 years.
I then got the job of selling them……the RMC went quickly enough and I decided to buy the RMA. Now sat in my garage looking like this..

This was my wedding car 39 years ago so I thought it would nice to have a run out on our anniversary next year. I bought it back to the unit I have use of and did the brakes and some odds and ends and then drove it the couple of miles home. It then developed a misfire which testing indicates is related to number 3 inlet valve.

I’ll post some more pics once I work out how to get them onto this pad from my phone…..

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

I love the way that Riley (even by then under Nuffield) simply got on with the 1930s seemingly as if nothing had happened and carried on doing what they were good at with little obvious regard for changing fashions.

I do like those RM Rileys, they have an air of quality about them. Good looking with lovely engines and splendid interiors.

Yes….. couple. Something wasn’t happy although it turned ok……tested before firing up. I figure maybe valve return may have been a bit slow so there has been some valve/piston interaction. The valves enter at an angle so never come off well

Struggling to get head off at moment as there are two hot spot pipes that go through the block which seize in the manifold…which have seized. Solution is remove more bits then cut them at manifold side. I have sworn at it a lot and left it to consider it’s behaviour before going cave man on it…..
