It is still rare for Ev's to go up in flames, the trouble is that when they do they are fucking intense and very hard to put out. At an airport you'd think they'd be pretty on the ball as they'd be trained up to the eyeballs and get paid to sit around all day doing not a lot as they are rarely needed. If it took out multiple vehicles either side of it I'd say there is a fair chance it was an EV.

“I believe the biggest risk to hybrids and PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) is driven by package. Due to the requirement of fitting two powertrains into one vehicle (ICE powertrain and EV powertrain) all components are much more densely packaged, thermal control and electrical components may need to be packaged quite close to exhausts. In addition, batteries are subjected to a much higher duty cycle than EV batteries, they are discharged to zero and charged to 100% more frequently and typically faster (at the cell level) resulting in faster dendrite formation (another way in which cells can fail via internal short circuit),

There's also evidence that Hybrids are more likely to combust than EV's. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-b ... s-67073446 The BBC are already saying it appeared to start with a diesel car...

I can't wait till insurers insist EVs are banned from multistorey car parks and in separate areas well away from buildings for found level parking.
Yeah that would have helped prevent when the multi on Liverpool docks burnt down wouldn't it?

Was started by a LR Discovery btw

This sort of thing seems to be happening more often. It’s probably fuck all to do with electric cars and everything to do with how much flammable stuff is in a modern car, also their increasing size and how much more closely parked they are when spaces have remained the same for decades.

I wonder if house insurance will increase for homes with an EV charger ?
Since June 2022 all new builds need to have an EV charger fitted by law. I think the insurers will be asking if an electric car is parked on the premises, as the charger is not the problem.

FTFY - I knew it had to be wrong because of all the new builds around here without them.

There was a fire based recall for Evoques, the owner in the thread below had a car fire in an airport car park,
it ignited whilst parked but only four vehicles were damaged

The picture is possibly from an Etihad Flight attendant so I googled in case there were more images.
I am at home using my own desktop so what turned up in an image search by name wont get me an HR interview without coffee.
