When I got the screen on my E30 replaced after a woman/high heel interface the screen man told me that MGB's were either the easiest or most difficult screens to replace. I can't remember which. He did say that the BMW E30 screen was a doddle to replace.

I was an Autoglass Tech a few years ago and bailed after less than a year.

They will do private work but still charge the price they charge the insurer, so a screen you could get from a local independent windscreen chap for £150 fitted would be more like £700 through Autoglass. Therefore virtually everything is insurance work.

They have a fantastic training centre in Birmingham and invest a lot in it all however then throw you out alone with no support. It’s all well and good training in the perfect environment on cars that trainees are removing and refitting every couple of days so the glue is never hard.

My first week alone I ended up on a farm with a Vauxhall Combo where the farmer had the typical of that era footwell leak caused by the pedal box seal but assumed he had a leaky screen. The complete aperture was smoothed off with a tiger seal type product. Inches of the stuff, took me hours to get it out and clean it all off.

They also have a stupidly strict procedure for fitting and have auditors that will quite literally hide in bushes to catch you out. Lift a screen in by hand and get caught, sacked.

You have to use something called a 1tek which is a big arm suckered onto the passenger window. Takes ages to get set up right and is shite. Can’t use wire or longknives to get screens out, only a fibre string which snaps constantly.

It’s all well and good having procedures but then putting 8 jobs a day on you means you either don’t get jobs done, or cut corners.

I don’t know any other company like it, I had National out last week on one of our cars and he was done in 45 mins, longknife it out glued up and lifted new one in by hand.

I wouldn’t ever use AG by choice, knowing what I know

You'd have thought they'd have realised at some point after struggling with it that those corner trims were meant to fit in the top and vice versa? What a bunch of fucking monkeys.

BT were the same. I suspect every company who staff do manual work in the field is the same. Do it properly, miss targets, cut corners and risk getting caught. It just creates stress.
