Re: Land Rover Name Killed Off By JLR
it's an odd one this.
Ford, in the US especially are trying to deny their motoring heritage too. It sort of makes you wonder if it's because of the general view that motorised conveyances with an Internal Combustion engine are bad, therefore we should deny that it ever happened.
That said, the new and future line ups all look to still be ICE based, so christ knows.
They are doing a bit of a BL though and releasing competing lines of the same sort of car under different badges, which has a rich history of ending well for all involved..

Will they stop using the name JLR as the LR stands for Land Rover?

Wasn't the Discovery 3 sold in the colonies as the LR3?

Re: Land Rover Name Killed Off By JLR
It's funny how the Yanks call a Range Rover just a Rover. It makes for a decent giggle in the lyrics of some rap/r'n'b songs. This isn't a new thing either. Back in 1992 I was picking up a 1.0 base model Fiesta hire car (no expense spared for the bailiff firm I was working for at the time) and the lady at the rental desk was having a heated conversation with a Yank tourist who'd arranged to rent what he thought was a Range Rover for two weeks and had been given the keys to an 820E auto fastback.
Yank. "That's not a Rover it's a Sterling".
Lady. "No it's not a Sterling, it's an 820 hatch. If you want a Sterling it'll cost you extra and we'll have to get it brought here from another branch".
Yank. "But I specifically asked for a Rover automatic".
Lady. "Which is what I've given you".
Repeat a dozen times.
I'm not one for remembering reg numbers but I do remember the reg of that base spec Fiesta. G833ETX.

Re: Land Rover Name Killed Off By JLR
Given Land Rover has had appalling press about reliability, although not much if any worse than a lot of other premium makes, I don't like the decision but it makes some sense to me.
As Cunster says who cares, not the people who are buying them new just people like us. Apparently they have a 200,000+ vehicle sales backlog and current sales are also going well.
I suspect most are supplied on monthly leases and are part of the overall image their drivers want to overtly display. I think Paul said about a mate of his who lives in a pretty average house but leases an Evoque.

Same council house for 25 years and paying £500 a month for eight thousand miles a year in an evoque. He bought a second car so he doesn't get the new one dirty and can keep the miles off it. He's a 360 driver and does pretty well.
