RWD A-series did I think, such as Midgets & Minors.

A quick internet search agrees with you (apart from the 1500 Midget which was of course a Triumph engine).

So seems to be an Austin/Morris thing.

Yeah, I had a 1500 Midget that came with a 1275 handbook & I recall checking.

I am amused by the Duckhams “Collectors Edition.”

Yeah, I was thinking of buying one for my carport. That collects oil....

Got me thinking now because I always put gl5 in the land rovers. The Davie Broon takes 10w30 universal oil for engine, gearbox and hydraulics, but tractors are high hours, low mileage.

MGB is engine oil in the box too, including those with overdrive. Guys at Moss did tell me that they were told it was a hangover from the days where garages were used to putting engine oil in older boxes. I have got some classic gearbox oil that should be good for my MGB box, but as it shifts nicely, I've been in no rush to change it over yet.

Why the fuck would you put EP oil in when it specifies engine grade oil? That's a sure way to destroy the cogs.

It was high time to do something about the Humber's number. It was looking very tatty and, whilst I'm all for this bullshit 'patina', it was just spoiling the front of the car. So I removed the rather battered plate.


It had already had several coats of the wrong paint which were flaking off.


So I stripped it with Nitro Mors and wire wool. Taking longer than it used to do because nothing is as good as it used to be.


Then I masked it up, which took almost as long as stripping the old paint.


After that, a coat of etch primer followed by two coats of Eastwood radiator black. I've yet to use it on a radiator but can vouch for its efficacy on starter motors, dynamos and number plates.


Buoyed by the success, I turned my attention to the CD plate. I'd already done this in the past before I bought the Eastwood stuff and wasn't happy with the finish. So I stripped that too.


I can't make out the maker, looks like Homco or something. Maybe I can found out from the patent number.


The old guy I bought this off didn't know what it was and asked me if I knew what country it represented. I didn't tell him what it actually was until I put some folding into his hand.


Then I perched it on the bumper. This is where I want to position it but need to make a bracket first.

Sterling work, there Squire....The Humber would grace any ambassadorial car park now. You probably know, but it was always quite permissible for any member of the British public to attach these to their car.
