Great to see it still has its original interior present. Looks in nicely preserved condition.

That's fantastic & shabby in all the right ways to look it's age but still wonderful.

Unfortunately not the original reg., but a 1990's age-related issue. I have some documents including correspondence with the DVLA which might reveal the original plate, when I have a moment to look. I agree with the naff look of the plates which a trained eye can spot a mile off. Will give the car a full appraisal soon when time and weather permit. I know the brakes are partially seized and need freeing off, for starters.
The overdrive as you know is a godsend. Indeed the adverts at the time rightly said it was 'a must for motorways'.

Are you sure? It’s an original 1957 Essex registration number, definitely not an age related one.
Are you going by the V5 saying non transferable? Well that would probably be because the original reg was lost when the 1983 computerisation cutoff date was missed, then reallocated at a later date with help from the Standard club. Documentary evidence will have been required to link car and number together.
The fact it comes up as first registered in 1995 would support this theory, as this would be the date the number was reissued.
It’s either that or it’s a random 1957 reg transferred onto it by a conscientious previous owner, but that is less likely.

You've no idea how pleased I am that car still exists, and that it's now in good hands. My mate bought that from someone in Sutton Bridge about eight or nine years ago, I remember taking him to get it in the snow. He didn't have it long and shortly afterwards I saw one being raced on YouTube and just assumed it was that one. Does it still have some interesting wiring mods, including (I think, it's been a while) a buzzer thing which made a noise when the indicator is operated?
