Or when it's aged a bit.

I've got used to the B series in mine now....Should be a nice BMC green but its Pinto blue - bought unseen and fitted by a fella in the Owners Club. I paid a pittance for it so can't complain and he did check if I wanted it painted. He neglected to tell me it was Inv?c*r blue though.

Thanks guys. Trevor you could paint it that yukky green or gold after the Gold Seal engine, which would look fantastic. Otherwise IIRC pre-1956 engines were painted a sort of blue-grey, this was certainly the case with all 803cc Morris engines. However, there is something to be said for a random colour some chap just used what he had on the shelf.

Or when it's covered in oil again.

There won't be any more oil or water leaks.

I suspected the fuel pump gaskets were defective. I was right, in fact on the pump side there was no gasket at all, just that horrible silicone goop.

The neoprene gasket had hardened and become brittle, but only split when I removed it. Both are now replaced after cleaning the surfaces.

This also gave me a chance to compare the pump with a spare I'd bought. It was indeed correct, as it had been described when sold.

You can't beat these old AC lift pumps. Hand-priming lever and glass bowl makes life so much easier.

A major achievement is the replacement of the cylinder head. First I had to clean up the new gasket because of some rust spots through age and storage. It is a new gasket however and part of a set, which I was pleased to get because modern new sets are over £100. And I don't trust them to fit properly.

I coated it with Wellseal in accordance with the workshop manual. This is horrible stuff to work with but does seem to do a good job of it, I used it on the core plugs too.

Re-assembly is straightforward, the engine is piss easy to work on; everything is bolt on and it has separate manifolds for convenience. It is a good design. All that's left to do is more cleaning of parts including the rocker gear, then more re-assembly. But the major work is done. A little more painting to be done such as the oil filter canister but that will wait until the next filter change. These cars consume so many man hours that I dread to think how much time I spend on them, good job it's my hobby and I enjoy it. Hopefully it'll be back on the road for the N.P.H.2 meeting on Wednesday.
