I made a small compromise last month and bought a T4 Caravelle. I like being by the sea; I lived there for the first 21 years of my life. My parents still live approximately 1000m from it. What I wanted was a mobile beach hut (I've never understood spending £15k on a shed that's in the same place) something we could eat in, have a laugh in and - when needed - two or three of us could sleep in.

It's a completely factory standard LWB Caravelle and I'm very fond of it. Like Arthur (who now has my old one) we had a Granvia and it did EVERYTHING well. The only bonus with the Caravelle is it's longer and with 3x3x3 seating we can take out the back row completely and still use it as a family, and take out the back two rows when it's just me and her.

Obviously - VW is a bit of a swear word on forums like this, but I absolutely love it. Mostly because it's totally standard - but also because it's smart, not slow, good on fuel and OTHER VANS WAVE AT YOU!

My neighbour owns this though which, for me, is the bloody ultimate camper. He part converted it in the early 80s so he could take his family on holiday all over the UK - so it has space for beds, a kitchenette and toilet. I have first shout on buying it when the time comes. I have the space for it, and would LOVE to own it. I better get saving!

Didn't know you'd got that mate, don't think I saw it 'over there' when I've looked either. I've seen your latest car though, so that's good.

Haha thanks, man. Caravelle turned up end of January.

Escort is fab. Shite, but fab. What it's SUPPOSED to be all about.

Much as I would love that Bristol, or something similar, I have to unfortunately exist in the meagre slice of the real world that I have been able to afford lordship over. Therefore I also defaulted to Volkswagen category of camper van. Bornite - I am with you on the mobile beach hut thing it is exactly how I refer to my own van. We do overnight stops and weekends away but primarily we load up before bedtime, sleep in our own house overnight and crack on down the local beach at daybreak where we spend the whole of that day and into the night.

I grew up 2 miles from the beach and I am never 100 percent happy unless I can hear, smell and see it. Having the van means I can do so almost on a whim.

Like the colour of that T4, too.....

For a good few years we had both a beach hut and the VW.

As there's lots of cliffs around here you can't really get too close to the beach by vehicle so the hut acted like a store and refuge, we could walk the last few hundred yards to it just carrying a few bits.

In the end we got rid of it as we only live about 100 yards from what is supposed to be one of the best beaches in Norfolk. The camper is used for going off for the day, usually taking the dogs with us.

I don't think it will be very much money at all. His greatest concern is finding someone who will love it as much as he does.

This is up now for £4425 no reserve. On the watch list to see if it garners any interest at that price. ...Despite my no more project rule
