Re: Replica Jaguar
The E-Type sounded the death knell for them. They've been on borrowed time since BL was disbanded.

Re: Replica Jaguar
I can't remember all the ins and outs but you could probably make a good case for Jaguar doing the same as BMW all those years ago, given a UK equivilant of the Quandts.
The proposed platform sharing deal with BMW for the XJ80 might have been another fork in the road leading to success.
Who knows?

XJ80?
Are we going backwards I'd swear the V11 XJ40 was known as the XJ81.

Yes, just look how reliable the BMW engined and developed P38 Range Rover was...LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 10:25 am I can't remember all the ins and outs but you could probably make a good case for Jaguar doing the same as BMW all those years ago, given a UK equivilant of the Quandts.

Although as the two JLR test engineers I was talking to on the top of the Sierra Nevada in 2019 said in strong Brummie accents “ I hope it’s BMW that get us not fucking Peugeot”

Re: Replica Jaguar
P38 just had a BMW diesel engine didn't it? The V8 was the old Rover over bored till it fell apart.

Yep, I think that they went up to 4.6 litres.
It might have been better to supercharge it for more power.
I know that Leyland Australia had something like a 5 litre for the P76, which I think was related, but have no real idea (as usual).
