Re: Unparallel Renault 16 Happenings
Did anyone do a suspension conversion kit for these like I believe they did for the MGF?

No, they're not worth enough. Displacer replacement isn't a bad join and Ian + Dawn Kennedy (Facebook) are now supplying and fitting reconditioned units on your drive. Probably not cheap but nothing excellent ever is.

First of all, there aren't any left even in France. Secondly, the Renault 14, together with the Citroen DS, the Jaaaag She-Type and the Ford Sierra are exactly the cars that ruined automotive design forever. The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2019 11:08 am If there were any left, a vidid coloured Renault 14 would be a fine choice.

And the one in question is a '78 and looks a bit like being stanced.
So I guess 'genuine reason for sale' applies here?

Yep. If memory serves me right, with the trim height to correct spec, it should be massively high.

This is how I remember them when they were new. A friend of my grampa had one and consistently praised its sublime comfort and roadholding.

Re: Unparallel Renault 16 Happenings
I'm reading my newly purchased September 1978 'What Car', and the Renault 20TS long term test therein.
It seems that if you want old (30+) reliable, good to drive, easyish to fix and genuine comfort, you must again look to Regie.
The 14 was indeed a Peugeot powered bastard but I'd cross the road to look at one.

I've got a pump that will sort that maxi out, no probs. I've got spare displacers for my allegro but I'm minded to keep hold of them in case I should need them.

Re: Unparallel Renault 16 Happenings
Hydragas problems are rare, but over 40 years after the units were manufactured you do wonder what the lifespan is. Whatever, they were so well engineered and made that they have surpassed twice over any reasonable expectation of service life. I like the system as it completely eliminates dampers, springs and, in short, all the stuff that wears out and requires replacement. Hydragas is effectively maintenance free, draining and topping up of the system only required every few years when the car sits noticeably below the specified trim level. Even then it is a tolerant system, problems only start if it is pumped up too much. The draining and refilling operation is simplicity itself.
