I'm man enough to admit when I make a mistake and yes I made a boo boo.
When I fitted the front pads I didn't pay attention to the old pads and retainers when removed. If I did I would have known that the retainers on the pads that hook over the caliper are handed meaning the pads were not seating right. When brake was pressed the calipers tried overriding the pads and pushed out diagonally instead of onto the pads. Oh well. Easily rectified this evening.

Re: Fords finest. I fucked up.
A dealer mechanic did similar on a parts van I drove years ago and claimed it needed a new master cylinder. I worked on it myself after that....bub2006 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 12:00 am I'm man enough to admit when I make a mistake and yes I made a boo boo.

I hope you double checked the pads. When it happened on the van the bending of the back plate was enough to start splitting the friction material off the back plate so I replaced them before I drove it.

It hadn't even left the garage before the fault was found. Inspected them and seemed fine. The piston was barely making contact with the pads so no harm no foul.

The idiot who did that van had been stamping on the pedal to fix* it, so they'd bent a lot.

Well tomorrow is going to be a fun day. Checked the coolant and oil levels, changed wheel bearing on trailer and checked tyre pressures on both car and trailer. All set for my grand day out to....

Planning to take the scenic route. Via gallia through towards Buxton then the cat and fiddle to macc and over to the m56. Been paid 100 quid to fetch a load of vacuum cleaners and parts. was planning on taking roof box too but haven't got any bars for the car so hopefully I've enough room. May get some scenic photos en route.
