When Was The Last Time You Were Scared Shitless As A Driver Or Passenger?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

There is something disconcerting about travelling in the passenger seat of bloody great big yank tank. Oncoming traffic is a bit close and of course you have no control.
Drive it day 2018 involved a drive in the passenger seat of Drum's said yank tank. The route was across Rannoch Moor, a more desolate place and road you canny imagine. That went no too bad. Couple of arse clenching moments. Nearly home maybe quarter of a mile i was happily videoing the scenery.
About 24 seconds into this vid. I had the scariest moment of the day for me anyway!! SHAT MEESELL!

I'm a very nervous passenger. The scariest I've been was in a V reg 2.5 vectra sri. My clueless labourer had it back in the day and drove everywhere flat out. Chopped springs and massive halfords alloys. I was like slow the fuck down!
He said don't worry, it's got traction control! That's just to stop the wheel spinning you arsehole. I think he was getting mixed up with stability control.
This must have been over fifteen years ago and I still shudder.
I ended up buying it off him and just typed decent post about what I got up to in it, then realised this is public and deleted it accordingly.

Lol. I would have thought some of the trips to or from Knockhill two up on the bike would have been more scary than that Tam!

The year was 2013. I had purchased a blue 1990 reliant robin mk2. Previous owner had done some mods to it and had a rolling road printout of 56bhp which wasnt bad at all for its size and weight. Paper work shown a ported head, electronic ignition and electric fuel pump,Kawasaki gt750 rear shocks, different carb and some other odds and ends done to it.
I was on a course in Nottingham for my SIA badge so used the reliant to go to tram park and left car there. One day I left lights on so rang our lass to come and jump start it. We both left nottingham and headed down the a610,she was in a vectra c. I thought it be fun to give it some welly. Was all going well with speedo reading more than the 100mph it went to but the steering felt very light. Being the dumb 26 year old I was I kept it pinned.
Approaching the IKEA flyover I was hit by a strong side wind and I went from the outside line to the slip road with no steering input then found I was approaching stationary traffic at rather high speed with 3 drum brakes. That was a brown trouser moment.
Another one I had was on a honda c90 club ride out. My c90 was off the road so I used the robin.
Tanking it round Derbyshire Dales following a 160cc pit bike engined cub,the silly bastard in front of me missed the bend so went down the darm track straight on and so did I. The silly bastard then tried braking on the farm track. My reliant didnt stop too well and a blare of the horn had the rider jumping off into the hedge while I was still doing 50 trying to keep the thing in a straight line!
The worst thing for me though was the Ford escort van crash. On the a168 just out of thirsk and doing around 60 to 65 in February of 2016. I remember a sudden thump then felt like I was going up in the air and slammed onto road then barrelled into ditch. BMW hit me from behind and investigators found his ecu was reading 100% throttle and 147mph when his airbags deployed. How I walked away I'll never know.

I’ve never scared myself driving an XJ-S or an XJS for that matter. Unless you count racing a Porsche 944 Turbo across Milton Keynes in a 3.6 auto (E165GPL) . It was one of the first facelift “ sports suspension” cars and youthful exuberance coupled with knowing the right line through every roundabout almost made up for lack of power and an excess of weight.
Mrs N, was starting to gasp and grab the seat tighter, a sure sign I was pushing too hard, as she’s always been the most laid back passenger ever. I was marvelling at the way I could correct little slides without the steering rack locking up, unlike the way older Jags steering just got so heavy due to the hydraulics not being designed to do that.
Anyway I was flat out , about to hit the redline in 2nd when ... BANG !!!!! And what I thought was smoke everywhere, Porsche Boy beeped and laughed as he disappeared , I shit myself that I was going to get the sack, MrsN voiced her opinion of what a twat I was about to get fired 3 weeks before our first baby was due and we’d just bought our first house...
Imagine my joy when I opened the bonnet to see a hose with a piece of steel pipe attached spewing out antifreeze and steam, the braised pipe had blown out of the water pump. Limped home and got Jaguar to pick it next morning, they left a Rover 820SE auto , just what I needed, slowest thing on 4 wheels.

Real shitting my pants moment include bouncing off the rear wheels of an artics trailer , then opening my eyes and my helmet ( oooher missus) being wedged behind the pressed metal numberplate of an LEB Fiesta van- I’m sure if that had been these days, the LEB bloke wouldn’t have stopped- no mobile phone, Costa coffee, sat nav distractions in 1982.
This happened at Henleys Corner where the North Circular and A1 meet, I was carefully* filtering when a bloke in a Transit realised he was in the wrong lane..
The good news was I got a rental 400/4 and my finance was paid off on my 250 RS so I could get a CX. Not so much as a penny component though - how times have changed.

I had a moment in my Opel Ascona, coming back from mother-in-laws 4 up (wife, her two in the back), I floored it round an artic on the exit from the bypass to get on the roundabout for our estate. Fucking throttle connection went over-centre and jammed fully on. No amount of pedal manipulation with the right foot was helping, we were flat out although an incline slowed us slightly. Without panicking anyone I turned the ignition off and scrubbed off as much speed as I could in the short time available.

Only when I re-fired the engine did it become apparent to the other occupants - fucking thing was screaming its nuts off. Had to pull over and pull the linkage back over itself. I've had complete loss of throttle a few times but never a jam-open situation like that.

Oh my ovloV 345 did that a couple of times, but at about 1/3-1/2 throttle so it did 40-50mph on it's own. That was bad enough, full throttle sounds much more fun*
