Opinions please

Post by nebuchenezer »

I have a company slag - bmw320d - it is well past it’s sell by date (42 month lease started Feb 2019) and the replacement is not due until June coz chips (tm)

As an car it is superb, it has 55k on it, mainly 50 mile plus runs, it is good for 700 miles between refills ( diesel). I have owned it from new and apart from some -5C computer shenanigans it has been ultra reliable.

Lease company is asking 15k to buy and I am tempted but I think that is a bit rich given it will need a service and tyres this year.

Asking the massive for opinions

1) Hand back to lease company before it breaks.
2) Buy Rover 600.
3) Happiness.

Can you buy a similar car that will so the same for the same money? I thought a 320D was peak an car tbh, sounds cheap for a '19 car.

Sounds a better bet than an unknown example of the same car, as you've known it from new.

Depends how minted you are, but too much for me.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

How much is a service and new tyres?, check ebay sold prices for same age/spec car, mileage, colour, number of owners and I assume full dealer history.

What id be asking myself is-
Any known issues with the engine. (Police noted issues of spontaneous combustion ironed out for example)
How far away is it from a big bill
What could you get for 15k that would do what that does
Does this do what you need and has it been reliable over your lease.
If the above questions can be satisfactorily answered then is the lease company open to negotiation on price.

I am far from a beard on BMWs as I have an irrational hatred of them - but wasn't that the 330d?

Liability wise, we will have to wait for the Rev to respond. I've completely lost track which are good BMW lumps and what are not.
