K Series Kettle "wisdom"

A lad I know has just bought a low mileage 25 on an 06 plate, it's a 1.4 Is this as likely to randomly grenade itself as the rest of them and is there anything at all that can be done to try and circumvent the inevitable?

Just keep an aye on the radiator and pipe work. I've had a fair few and never had any issues. I saved one by finding the rad goosed and leaking slightly so changed it.

I'm not sure. I've had both and had zero trouble. One was a metro gti 1.4 another was an mgf vvc. I hammered/drove properly both and had no issues whatsoever. It's a lovely revvy unit that likes to be used. The 1.4 put out 105bhp which is decent even now considering it was na.

Worth fitting a low level water sensor like every other Rover/Land Rover product should have had from the factory then?

I've seen it recommended for the MGF but understand they have pipes running under the car that are prone to corrosion. That was in a MG magazine and the article didn't really cover the Rover based cars.

I'd fit one given that it should be easy and relatively cheap.

I guess if the cooling is marginal that'd make sense.

I meant the 1.1 and 1.4 were better than the 1.8.

Smaller ones are/were underrated IMHO.
