Well, Mr Pin will have two Saab 9-3 convertibles soon enough.

I'm also going to have my second red Honda Civic diesel. Admittedly not at the same time.

You're asking the wrong people. :D

Civic is now with Supernaut, I'm glad it's gone to an owner who will appreciate it.

I've hit a bit of a pickle with the Saab.

The previous owner had the drivers seat refurbished. The trimmer needs their cunt punched in. We knew that they had pulled the seat out without checking that they had disconnected all the wiring and the airbag proximity sensor had been ripped out and was now held in with tape, throwing the airbag light on.

What the trimmer failed to mention was that they had

a) butchered the inside front torx bolt when putting it back in so it's completely rounded off

b) snapped off the outside front torx bolt completely. I wondered why the seat felt loose.

c) they handed it back to the owner in this condition without saying anything. The belt reels on the convertible are mounted on the seat and therefore rely completely on its security, rather than the body of the car. A definite MOT fail.

There's a guy near me who breaks Saabs and has a couple of bolts but fuck knows how I'm going to get the old ones out.

What a wanker. It's why I end up doing stuff myself, I always manage to find professionals* like that.

With the seat removed, is there enough thread left out to use a bolt extractor or even mole grips? There could be a good chance it was cross threaded in and butchered the threads.

Drilling it out could be quite hard going.

I have a selection of rounded bolt extractors if, as SiC said, there is enough left sticking out to grip onto.

Might be worth a go from underneath too, you might be able to wind it the rest of the way through if you can't get to it from above.

Cheers chaps. I have a welder so may end up welding a nut onto it.

I'm not invested in this car so if it turns into a right old war I'll get my money back from Cartakeback. It seems stupid for 2 bolts but they're kind of critical!

You could probably drill it out all the way through and replace it with a bolt and nyloc
