Flushing out the sump with diesel at the next oil change might help.

Plenty of oil in it. It was the first thing I checked. It just had an oil change a couple of months back at the mot.

I'd try a Forte engine flush first, then add a forte top end treatment to the sump

You could just ignore it rather than spend £30-40 on oil treatment especially if it has had a change. My T25 did that for 15 years and it wasn't a noisy tappet that killed the engine. I did lessen it's effect with thicker oil but I don't know anything about Pugs.

I'll have a look at it sometime. Just need to clear some bench and fix me Sony.

I've used a tin of Wynn's engine flush on the mexi beetle to great effect previously, when I picked it up the hydraulic tappets were clacking their tits off, it sounded like a car in Grand Theft Auto (1) just before it blows up. Added it to the oil, fired it up and let it rev away at about 2.5k for a while and it shut it right up. Dropped the oil and filled with new and it was spot on.

£12.46.
What a difference. Went silent after half a mile and totally silenced the whole engine. I can't hear it running at idle. Smells, looks and tastes like dog piss though.
