Car Mechanics magazine once sent me to Moly Oils in Germany on a Phact Finding Mission and the engineers there said all anyone really needs is 10w/40.

Surely it depends what the engine is designed for?

After all one of the reasons so many slag off the CVH was it was designed for 10w40 & the tappets failed when 20w50 that everyone was used to was put in it.

The heater in the van is shite. I was in my mates knackered trasit last week and his was like furnace. It took nearly 10 miles for the temperature guage to get moving even then it only just got above a quarter and putting the fan on speed two caused it to start dropping again.
Ordered a new stat, I just have to hope it's pretty accessible. Kiltox kindly left/forgot 5 litres of antifreeze under the front seat too. Bonus.

Looking at that bottom pic I wonder if I can just change the stat rather than disturb all those hoses.
