I think it could be a while before this is back on the road :)

Underneath this morning - when we pulled the engine and box out the propshaft slid out on the splines - I couldn't do it back that way, so had to unbolt it at the back.

I expected a flange (fnnar fnnar) with nuts and bolts but it's actually a yoke with two u bolts - they seem tiny and lightweight but thankfully were easy to undo.

Marked the shaft and yoke so I can put it back the same way round.

Next I pulled off most of the "exhaust" I cobbled up in days gone by. It did the trick but I plan to go back to something more standard. Instead of the twin pipes that the previous owner made from the original y piece, I'm going to use the Y piece from the 67 parts car so it's back closer to orignal.

Twin pipes were available but not for my version of the car and not ones (I assume) with birdshit welding on the cross pipe.

Putting the x-member back was tricky but got it done with only a modicum of swearing.

I've worked out that some pillock has put the harmonic balancer back without putting the crankshaft pulley on - so that'll have to come off and be refitted.

Last week (or was it the week before) I went to LIDL in hope of getting one of their cordless impact guns - there were none to be found even though I went on Thursday.

Does anyone else do this? As a consolation prize I bought extendable 1/4 and 3/8 ratchets and a crawler/seat

My hair now stinks of oil and I had black streaks all down my neck - great result.

I've got one like that albeit a different make.

Being an old, fat cunt and not a lithe monkey it's really useful.
