Why would you use the original filter system when you can fit a faulty after market one?

Same reason the cunt fitted the wrong brake servo and an alternator that was such a shit fit that it had to be mounted slightly sideways and various other pointless bodges :)

It's kept me out of trouble for a while though.

Actually to be slightly fair - for some reason he had no idea where to get parts.

The MOT man told me off actually. The Pitman arm had worn an oval shaped hole in the drag link - it didn't seem bad to me (when driving) but he was all for slapping me with a "too bad to drive".

I drove home, put the car away in garage and wondered where I might get a replacement.

The parking brake would become regular failure.

Hmmm. overall, not too bad for a 40 year old Yank convertible of questionable previous maintenance I suppose.

Then I had a stroke of luck in May 2007. A bloke from the Australian AMC club e-mailed me to ask if wanted to buy a 67 Rebel convertible that he'd been asked about by a bloke who had it for sale in London.

Long story short, I offered £450 for the car (inc delivery) and it landed on my drive. I think the fella ran a storage and delivery outfit for people with fancy motors. The driver said he was used to dropping off Ferraris etc but said I was much more helpful and welcoming than his typical customer.

So now I had a complete spares car, and it only took me until the following March to get it sorted out and MOT'd.
