It is?

That was brilliant - one of the first things I noticed as a difference in the USA was those “competitor product x is wank” adverts. I’m not sure why they never really caught on in the UK. I suppose there was that subtle dig at BMW when the loud brash yuppie didn’t like the Audi…..the irony.

It had to be brand x in the olden days because of trademark infringement.

You can do comparitive advertising in the UK these days, within a set of rules.

Chrysler's dig at the Hornet was typical, though, of partisan Big Three automobile makers taking an elephant gun to small prey.....American Motors must have had one of their periodic little upturns in sales.

Problem with that kind of advertising propaganda is that a lot of people will take it at face value and believe that Plymouth was making superior vehicles.

Why does the AMC product have less room? If I recall, it crashes a damn sight better than the Plymouth, which hasn't really been upgraded underneath since the early 60's.

Having sat in a mate’s 1970 Duster I can’t say the quality of the interior seemed immediately superior to the AMC

That's because DUSTER uses high technology poly vinyl chloride and poly methyl methacrylate materials for its interior while REBEL uses mere cheap plastics.

It is true that you couldn't order an ammeter on AMCs. The Ammeter on my mate's Duster was the reason I was there - it routes the entire pos supply through that (as the old ones used to) via a crappy connector on the firewall. The connector always fails and the result is no power, and therefore no start. I mended his by bypassing it. I was a hero when I got it started for him as he couldn't get any auto sparkies to even come and look and he couldn't start it up to take it anywhere.
