I really dont want to throw towel in on my car but ive found a very crusty outer sill under the original paint on the sill. Small fingernail sized rust blob on sill near rear arch and it's very soft towards b pillar. I'm financially in too deep into the Peugeot to bin it and I wont be able to replace like for like on my budget. Car owes 900 now with new cambelt,clutch,brakes, exhaust and two tyres fitted yesterday so highly unlikely to find a large car with working ac and all new bits as mentioned above for a few hundred so rather chick money at sills. Will travel and obviously pay if any of you guys can help me out please? I can weld but not to a good enough standard I dont think and dont have a mig welder either. The stick welder I was given failed so was binned too so that no use!

I'm of the mindset do it right do it once. Dont like filler on sills either. But thanks though.

I'd have thought so as they complete the box section.

On this they look like spot welded along door shuts and seamed along bottom. That's why I was asking.

Ask an MOT place?

This is bringing back memories of all the endless pub (and elsewhere) arguments about what was and wasn't structural.

I reckon any MOT tester you ask is going to say the sills on a monocoque (and even most for a sep chassis) are structural. Don't forget there's that thing about corrosion within a certain number of centimetres of a seat belt anchor point as well.

Sorry I can't help - my welding is crap and although I have MIG it jams the wire for fun. Can't even recommend anyone - the bloke who did that Mondeo we both owned took ages and charged a fortune.

Put a photo up of where it's festering, but usually yes pretty much the entire length is considered structural.
