The last time I was done for speeding by an actual Copper rather than camera was in an R25 V6, not Turbo unfortunately, a 1990 V6 Auto with a funny spec, cloth but it had the ergo seat thing with lots of buttons to electrically inflate and deflate things in the seat. I used to leave the door open or handbrake on a bit just so the car would talk , my 2 eldest were 4 and 1 at the time. It was a pool car that was too new to dispose of but none of the senior managers would have it because A.it was a Renault and they could just squeeze into a 520 e34 or 230e W124 on their budget. B. It didn’t have aircon.
Anyway one Sunday night in June 1992, we’d been to visit . my poorly Grandmother in Abergavenny and ended up not leaving until 11. Mrs N and the kids were soon asleep and the A40 was deserted…
The Copper having a rest break in Symonds Yat Services reckons the 25 sounded like a jet as I came down the hill and through the dip. This was after he finally caught me more than 15 miles later on the M50, if I hadn’t slowed down for the roundabouts at Ross on Wye so as not to wake anyone up , I don’t think he would have caught me, I had no idea he was there.
He was in a 2.0i Cavalier Mk3 and was surprisingly pleasant and just ticketed me for “ exceeding 70” Afterwards he asked how fast I thought I was going through Symonds Yat, I didn’t know but I did know it’d show 130 on the flat and I hadn’t lifted my foot since Monmouth traffic lights.
