The last time I was done for speeding by an actual Copper rather than camera was in an R25 V6, not Turbo unfortunately, a 1990 V6 Auto with a funny spec, cloth but it had the ergo seat thing with lots of buttons to electrically inflate and deflate things in the seat. I used to leave the door open or handbrake on a bit just so the car would talk , my 2 eldest were 4 and 1 at the time. It was a pool car that was too new to dispose of but none of the senior managers would have it because A.it was a Renault and they could just squeeze into a 520 e34 or 230e W124 on their budget. B. It didn’t have aircon.
Anyway one Sunday night in June 1992, we’d been to visit . my poorly Grandmother in Abergavenny and ended up not leaving until 11. Mrs N and the kids were soon asleep and the A40 was deserted…
The Copper having a rest break in Symonds Yat Services reckons the 25 sounded like a jet as I came down the hill and through the dip. This was after he finally caught me more than 15 miles later on the M50, if I hadn’t slowed down for the roundabouts at Ross on Wye so as not to wake anyone up , I don’t think he would have caught me, I had no idea he was there.
He was in a 2.0i Cavalier Mk3 and was surprisingly pleasant and just ticketed me for “ exceeding 70” Afterwards he asked how fast I thought I was going through Symonds Yat, I didn’t know but I did know it’d show 130 on the flat and I hadn’t lifted my foot since Monmouth traffic lights.

Well that's day one over and got pretty much everything I went after. Amazingly it has all fitted in the car. The bloke I bought the bonnet from is a bit of a hoarder. I should of grabbed some pics but it's a bit rude to do that. He has shit everywhere but most of it is just rotten junk. Barns full of old prams and push bikes. None of it any good as the barns were falling down. There are loads of 80's cars still on the road over here but due to driving I only have the one spot.

The 4007 has been doing 38 to the gallon today mainly due to 50mph limits.

Followed with some ice cream thing. I went easy on the booze tonight as I polished off half a bottle of toffee vodka last night and felt like shit all day today

Is the 4007 petrol? 38mpg sounds a bit shit if it was diesel. Even for a petrol that doesn't seem great?

Nope a 2.2 diesel not the most economical but it is 4 wheel drive and goes well enough given a chance.

I got it up to 44mpg today until I got stuck in traffic for 2 hours. There are some lovely old buses doing tours of the circuit.

Right thats that done. If you have never been just fuck Goodwood and do this instead. It cost about 200 quid for camping and entrance ticket complete with grandstand seat. At least 5 grids racing for 45 mins every hour for over 24 hours. Each grid had over 70 cars from the pre war up to the 1980's. There are some seriously rare cars there and loads of stuff that makes you thing wtf is that !. I have never been a BMW fan but fucking hell that M1 is a handful. If it isn't trying to do a type 2 and burst into flames it is sliding round every corner. The original fan car was there as well but was struggling like it did in period. Seeing Le Montstre in the metal is also worth the trip on it's own, I expect Lord March wouldn't let it in as this one is a recreation. It must be pretty accurate as it gave a lot of grief blowing it's engine yesterday and again failed to finish today. Here are a few pics but if anyone is interested I will sling some more on and upload the videos to youtube.
