Too be honest I will probably just leave it as is and wait to see what the inspector says. What is the worst that can happen get a dating certificate on the real chassis number shouldn't be too hard. It just isn't worth the risk trying to hide it.

I got the Jensen on the ramp yesterday and had a little look round it. Basically it is pretty sound but the front end of the sills needs some work but the wings will have to come off to do it. I also got the new cam belt and distributor so started sorting that. As a new tensioner was 165 quid I thought it would be ok until I got the cover off and found the front seal missing from the tensioner bearing and half the balls missing. I set off too bloody early this morning to pick up a new one from Martin Robey in Nuneaton. 6 hours later I got back and fitted the new belt. It will now start but the carbs need a rebuild as it will only really run on easy start at the moment but sounds well enough. That's enough for now but hopefully I can get back on it next week to get it driving.

Can you just fit a new bearing and seal to the tensioner or am I being tight again?

I thought I mentioned it before but that tag on the door pillar isn't just the body number is it and at some point they've got them confused?

I dunno how you find time to deal with paying customers with all the time spent on your own toys.

Well the chap from the inspection company came over yesterday and seemed to understand the issue and only took pictures of the number that is on the paperwork but he didn't really give me any idea what was going in his report, but he did say the DVLA are being pretty difficult now by asking them for more information after the visit. When they get the job they have a certain check list to do which is specified by the DVLA and they have had a few instances where they have had to go back as the DVLA have added extra hoops to jump through. So just a case of fingers crossed now and see what the DVLA say. I have been on to one of the American car clubs who can do me a dating certificate for just £125. What a rip off that is as American cars tend to be easier to date due to so many differences between each year of production. In other news the bounce back loan got paid off today which I am not sure was the right thing as borrowing at those rates won't happen again in a while, but at least I am debt free now. With a much smaller crap car fund I will have to spend it more wisely. I had a second chance offer on that Citroen DS up in North Wales yesterday but I turned it down at £5850. That was pretty good for me as that's not a bad price for a DS and they are kind of a bucket list car.

Just putting together a deal on a little Lancia Fulvia saloon. South of France car that looks half decent for a Lancia. Needs a recommission and a fuel tank. My mate Carlos will hopefully be picking it up for me as he now has a proper UK business registered to sort all the import paperwork so even more painless than before.

Hard to tell with the lack of any real info but it would break for well over 2k without any real effort. If it wasn't nearly 350 miles from me I would have a punt on it. Those alloys are pretty rare and it has it's spirit of ecstasy which is pretty much most of the money. If it has the small tool kit / spare bulb kit in the boot that is the best part of 200 quid. If you got that for it's estimate some decent photo's and an actual description would see it flipped for over 2k no problem even as a non running project.
