I seem to of done something stupid yet again

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

To get historic status on your registration here, the car must be as close to standard as it was when it first left the factory.

Registering a vehicle as historic will get exemption to paying road tax and get cheaper insurance.

However, and I and not sure if this is ever done, but the local government can borrow your car, without payment, should they want to use it to display at an event.

Is it RHD? There seem to be a disproportionate amount of RHD Hotchkiss- what’s the story?

2003 Mercedes E320 Estate
1968 AMC Rebel SST Convertible
1967 AMC Rebel SST Convertible (for parts)

Hoping for roffle win :)

All Hotchkiss were right hand drive the same as the other posh French motors. I can't remember the exact reason for it but I seem to think I read something about RHD being better in the mountains.

I don't think in the case of the French stuff it was the mountains although that no doubt explains some of the Italian and Swiss commercial vehicles that were RHD. All proper (non VW non footballer) Bugattis, for example, were RHD.

It seems most common on the better-quality French cars rather than those for the peasantry and I wonder if there is indeed some aristocratic pre-Revolution reason for this, to do with gentry on horseback maybe.

Aye, it will no doubt be something fairly simple like that though.

I think there is a similar reason why you drive on the right side on the approach road to the Savoy Hotel when turning in from the Strand.
