VW LT 35 - what do I need to check, please?
I’m getting old, the body’s failing, the minds going. I get tired so damn quick. Kids - with 1 exception are no damned use ( I despair, they can’t even check their own oil) .
So I’ve reluctantly concluded I need a transporter. A double deck sounds ideal but the lane to my barn is too small with overhanging tress, so for now it’s cheap transporter & A frame/ dolly, trailer.
I don’t want to spend any money though - so I’ve found an LT35 looking suspiciously clean with 3 months ticket. We’re going Wednesday - what do I need to look for pleez?

Yeah they are likely to only have a 1500kg payload at most which shouldn't be a problem with old cars as even my Renault 25 was ok on my old Movano. The biggest problem I had with those LT's and the Merc sprinter was the seating position and using the throttle. For me they are extremely uncomfortable and about 20 miles max before I have to get out of them due to the pain in my hip. It might just be me though but I had the same issue with 2 different trucks .

Ok, ta. I can sort an uncomfortable seat with a spare Saab one - if needs be.
My problems are feet, ankles, knees, hips are ok.
Payload? Meh. It’s not “ working” for a living, just moving my old shit around. I’ll plead ignorance!
So, engine issues, rust, general pain in the ass fuckedness?

It’s a petrol- is that a problem/ why is cheap?
4th gear might be an issue but the box doesn’t look difficult?

Re: VW LT 35 - what do I need to check, please?
I thought all the petrols were also on LPG. Sainsbury's bought a load of them if I remember correctly, one of my customers had one. My problem was the position of the throttle pedal in relation to the seat which made it uncomfortable. Engines were pretty good and they didn't rust any more or less than the competition. If it's not rotten and you can drive it comfortably then they are probably the best value little recovery trucks.

Re: VW LT 35 - what do I need to check, please?
If this was a truck to make money, I'd imagine most people would want a diesel as every penny counts in the race to the bottom vehicle transportation business. So it's desirability is probably a lot less and worth less as a result.
