Oh and the clutch went but that's been replaced too. I think I'm rather heavy on clutches but I've got left side weakness so I think that's partially to blame for having limited feel on clutch foot.

It will definitely see February 21 Mot. Next year it shouldn't need too much. Maybe front tyres and a ball joint, droplink or other consumable. It owes me around 950 which is alot for an old car but it's an old car with everything done. Climate control works, cruise works and seats are like armchairs

I did the same with the saab. Paid £850 for it and another £450 for a service with all the belts, pump etc done. It's been great since, although the dual mass is rattling but it hasn't got any worse since I bought it.

Well for 950 I've now got a 2002 diesel 406 with new tyres, rear brakes, clutch, cambelt, coolant and brake fluid change. On top of that I've got a car which does 45 mpg and has ice cold ac,cruise and everything electric. I personally dont think 950 for a car regardless of age in fine fettle isnt bad. Some right sheds for 500 on facebok

No its not. £950 for sorted and working car really is not a lot.

We focus too much on age of cars in the UK. Not helped by our daft numberplate system. My old housemates German boyfriend was absolutely amazed at my car knowledge of being able to figure out a year of a car by looking at it. After explaining our numberplate system, his first reaction was "Why would you do that? Surely it will just make cars devalue quicker if everyone knows a car is getting old"...

My Clio (of a similar age to your Peugeot) owes me £1850 now. However its currently fully sorted and there isn't much for that sort of money that is not only fun but pretty quick too.

That's what I say too. I'd rather buy a car 20 years old in fine mechanical fettle than a 10 year old car riddled with issues. I like french diesels too so no doubt the 10 year old car will be riddled with electrical issues and turbo or injector issues.

I have to say, the 406 was definitely "Peak Peugeot".
