Cross referencing a track rod end
It appears from everything I can find our Maverick has the wrong TREs fitted, the end that screws onto the rack is M14 rather than M16. Other dimensions appear correct and the taper has been fitted and working until now.
I've just had 2 come from Rock Auto which are wrong....
Any ideas on how to cross reference it or shall I just go down the motorfactors and ask if I can look through the stock they have......

Start with the manufacturer. Aftermarket catalogues tell porkies sometimes.

Re: Cross referencing a track rod end
They only list one option apparently that I can find.... The first one came from ECP but was (no surprise) wrong so I ordered from the US as it was cheaper for 2 than one from ECP anyway...

It's not about the options and whether or not there are any. It's about catalogues lying and it being repeat across them.
I'll have a butcher's later.

Re: Cross referencing a track rod end
It's just my impact driver I use for screws with a hex to 1/2" adaptor. Made quick work of undoing the castle nut without spinning it in the taper.

Re: Cross referencing a track rod end
Have you the correct steering rack or terminology? If it's not like below then fuck knows, you're on your own.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 3:13 pm It appears from everything I can find our Maverick has the wrong TREs fitted, the end that screws onto the rack is M14 rather than M16. My deductions are:
The inner end (of the tie rod) that screws into the actual rack should be M16 x 1.5
The outer end of the same rod should be M14 x 1.5
The inner end of the TRE has a female M14 x 1.5 thread which screws onto the end of the tie rod.
The outer end of the TRE that has the taper has a male M12 x 1.25 thread which has a castellated nut secured by a split pin.
From the Ford EPC, the part number of the tie rod (ref. 3280) is 4133164 and the part number of the TRE (ref. 3A130) is 4133165
4133164 Rod - Tie QTY 2.00 from 22.12.2000, to 02.09.2002, Maverick 2001-
4133165 End - Spindle Rod Connecting QTY 2.00 from 22.12.2000, to 02.09.2002, Maverick 2001-
That pulls up these pictures of the Ford part:
4133164 = Mazda E11232240 = Blue Print ADM58753 = TRW na
4133165 = Mazda E11232280 = Blue Print ADM58761 = TRW JTE7607 (although TRW link it back to a different Ford part number, fuck knows why) https://www.niparts.com/s_65B4E1/4546412.html
