Building the Leg End. The Old Jag thread.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

There is no saving it. The brand name needs to die with some vestige of dignity. Build whatever crap they like at Castle Bromwich, just keep the name off it. The fact that no attempt to make an electric sports car is very telling - we are not to buy cars to enjoy however they may be powered, only to ferry us from domicile to workplace to approved spending outlets and approved leisure facilities.

Surely in the brave new world of non-ICE propulsion offering a high degree of performance there would otherwise be scope for a worthy Jaguar?

What does Jaguar stand for in the minds of the buying public?

I've absolutely no idea. I suspect it will have nothing to do with Norman Dewis, Le Mans, 1960s gangsters or Arthur Daley though....

Nothing I think to people under 30 or so, at least the ones I know.

None of my sons mates, girlfriends, friends etc. appear to have the sllghtest interest in cars apart from reliably getting them from a to b. The only exception to this is our mobile crematorium which is pretty much in a class of its own as far as public perception is concerned, especially as VW is publicising the EV one.

There's just not the want/desire/dream or whatever I used to get when I was looking for a new car.

Around here cars are primarily status symbols that you're judged on at the golf and bowls clubs to assess how wealthy you are. The stupid thing about that is the wealthiest people I know have 15+ year old mass market cars, they're not bothered about the image they present.

Jag is always been about performance cars that are still relatively affordable. The world is slowly going electric - albeit shakily at times. BYD is making some of the most affordable electric vehicles out there and getting performance out of an electric car isn't that difficult (just more batteries and bigger motors). As they own most of the supply chain, their costs are kept very low against other manufacturers. Perfect recipe to making fast, affordable Jags again.
