What is This for ?

When you move house and everything is a bit unfamiliar, you look around and sometimes you find a switch on the wall with no clear purpose.
All the other switches are obvious and work as expected...

I have a switch or sensor thing just like that under the bonnet of a Mitsubishi Lancer

A blurry picture of it removed

A less blurry picture of it at rest, bolted to the outside of the thermostat housing

Its open circuit on a meter and I'm looking around for a cause of odd running, the electric fans come on the moment the key is turned,
unless its a rare day when they dont.

Open circuit one way and closed the other?
I.e. a diode.

150 Ohm resistance plus 0.5uF capacitor in series?

Snubber for noise suppression at a guess. If your meter can read capacitors select that and test between the connectors.

Yes it's just a condenser for noise suppression.

Mitsubishi part number MR472444

You'd have got an answer on TDW 7 weeks ago if you'd only asked....unlike asking: https://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/threa ... or.262069/

Yeah, I confused an enthusiast forum with a source of knowledge but there are some unintentionally funny threads on there.

"My airbag light is on, some parts are missing" https://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/threa ... ost-552894

The fix.....

Feeling rebellious today, so I dragged my covid self into the glorious sunshine armed with a test meter

PhilA is a WINNER!
Eddie Honda is runner up.

I am not a Winner as I probably left the bloody thing disconnected in all the excitement.

I would have thought 150V marking rather than resistance.

Noise suppression usually involves a sink point through a filter and resistance, that's a fairly nominal set of values.
The ones we have at work for shutting up squealing phone lines range from 0.1u/300R to 1u/100R

I wouldn't expect voltage ratings on sandwich caps like that, though it's likely rated to about 300V
