I should have, and nearly did, have mine converted to a V8 a long time ago.

I'll have to mention this to my eldest next time I'm haranguing him as to him being the cause of having to get rid of my MK2 Golf GTi as he also prevented this.

Yep,

There were quite a few firms doing these conversions then and the price was not too bad.
I vaguely remember there was a Weber carb option as well.
Mine, being a chrome bumper, would have needed the inner wings bashing back but otherwise it would have been a fairly standard conversion.
