So last Sunday I decided to go to the newly reborn Notts Americana at the Newark showground. And wished that I hadn't bothered, it was absolutely shite. Piss poor turnout, fuck all trade stands and everything being packed away. Oh and no signs as to which gate to use to gain admittance. Shame as it used to be a massive three day show, place your bets as to whether it will return next year especially as the organisers* lost a shitload of money. Anyway here's the few photos I took starting with:

This 1968 Plymouth Satellite was pretty original, nice 383 V8/auto combo, the cop black steelies with poverty caps looked good.



Very nice 1959 Dodge Custom Royal, I like these.



Continuing the 1959 theme an Edsel, I do prefer the wilder 1958 version though.



I used to have an F100 similar to this except that the patina on mine was real.

The best car there, gorgeous 1941 Cadillac convertible. The chap had only owned it for thee weeks, wish he had shut the boot and bonnet though.

Some class cars there but a pisspoor shadow of Americana past.....The Bev-Fest held over the weekend at Eastwood was a lot more successful and may (although it was a music weekend) have taken folk away from the Showground.

I think we chatted about the reasons and whyfores of Americana's demise when we met. Such a shame, it was really one of the best weekends in the year for me at one time.

I thought there was a loophole in the regs that allowed them to transfer registrations without an mot as long as the car was taxed.
The amount of old barn find type cars coming up on eBay with brand new “XS” plates would tend to suggest there is a way of doing it.
Failing that, bent mots aren’t hard to come by.

If you have a historic (classic) vehicle you’ll also need a current MOT certificate, even if your vehicle is usually exempt from MOTs.

It's a fairly recent addition. Looks like the DVLA inspection is gone now. Probably done because it's cheaper to get people to do MOTs which effectively do the same thing by confirming the car exists rather than the DVLA budget being used to get people out.

Bent MOTs still do happen but given the amount they are clamping down on it, a risky endeavour for those that still do.
