My first car was an 8 year old Rover P5, bought cheap because it had issues. Engine was shot, burning oil and somewhat rattly. Auto gearbox took ages to engage, which it did with a massive jolt. Floor and door bottoms rusted out, carpets had rotted but the leather seats were OK, as was the wood door caps and dash.

Had it about six weeks before PAYING a scrap man to take it away. Missed it everyday since.

No photos, but then how many 17 year olds had a camera in 1976 when there was petrol and oil to buy?

I remember buying my first camera with my student grant, then figuring out that 100 ASA film was an absolute waste of time and it worked far better with 200 or 400.
Happy days, take photos then wait until you finished the roll before posting it off for developing. Kids of the last 20 years will never know the hope of getting at least a couple of decent photos per roll.. Or getting 27 exposures from a 24 shot film.

Or not wanting to take a specific photo because you were thinking "I've only got two pictures left on the film, and there might be something better"

Drivers side sill and outer rear wheel arch, both inner sills at rear sub frame mounting area, fuel pump dead, will run on easy start.
Last used March 2018, 97000 miles.
If I hadn't bailed mine then you could have used both to make one good one.

Unfortunately whilst having an exploratory pock underneath I discovered the welding repairs the previous owner had done were seam sealant and a good coverage of rhino liner. Further prodding revealed the floor to sill area gone both sides front to back and the rear subframe mounts rotten too. It just wasn't rare enough to put the hours into fixing. It was gone the same day to a breakers yard. Loved that car but not the 12mpg!
I can remember scrapping a terminally rotten chrome arched XJ12HE the day after Tony Blair won the 1997 general election.

I can remember around that week too. Didn't bridge anything but took a lift with a mate from Alexandria to High Wycombe. Must have been the following Thursday. He was returning his sister's 7.5 tonner horse box to Leatherhead and suggested I throw the GT in the back. Sofa-surfed at Tommy's (and his then burd's flat) in Dashwood Ave, just up from Malcolm Anderson's (The Hillman Imp specialist). Went down to the local Delta office the next day and was despatching a my first two items into London village.

I've not sure I took any at the time. I'll have to ask Tommy!
