Strange the downer on the old Cavs as I actually thought they drove really well and the good old 2 litre was pretty Good on fuel for a decent sized car.

Fit normal suspension to it & those tyres would be on the floor.

Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown
The mk 2 Cavalier was great when it came out, so easy to work on and reliable unlike the BL shit. Vauxhall soon realized their mistake and with the mk3 just kept making it harder and harder to work on and it just ended up as bad as all the rest of the 90's shit

Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown
My old man had a G reg Sri in JRG and it was fast as fuck from 50mph upwards. I loved it.
Later, I had an N reg 1.8LS and it was as dull as the silver grey paint work.

My dad had a Mk2 1.6, I remember watching it tick over 100k while struggling to stay over 50mph pulling a small caravan.

Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown
I had a '94 Cav SRi which was rapid, comfortable and handled pretty damn well on Koni shocks. And IMO the Mk 3 Cav still looks good today.
I only sold it because my Calibra came up at a bloody good price, otherwise I'd still probably have it.

Re: How to buy a car in the lockdown
I had a job in the late Eighties which involved a fair bit of dashing about in company motors. One of the very nicest was the Sales Manager's Mk2 130SRi Cav saloon. He had an "oof" with it fairly soon after getting it and as it was barely run-in it got reshelled. Being the bloke he was he took a very keen interest in the rebuilding process and I understood that much had been done at his own expense. It was quick, probably no quicker than any other 130 but fuck me it was planted. So much so that when I finally got hold of the MD's E28 535i I still preferred the Cav......
Proof of the pudding was the fact that the sales fella bought the Vauxhall off the company as soon as he could and kept it alongside his Rover 827 replacement. I liked the Mk1s we had before these as well - much more so than the equivalent Cortina. Every one of those I drove felt absolutely fucked.

There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
