I used to live in Corringham and there was often a lorry on its side at that roundabout. It’s a bit off camber so probably easily done. (I’m speaking from a position of ignorance here, I’ve never driven anything bigger than a seven and a half tonner.)

Maybe this should be in stupid questions but if a van is overloaded by, say, 100% on a regular basis then doesn't the actual structure start to fail?

Depends on the Van I guess -some of them are based on mechanicals that can take a higher load in other versions/markets, and there's a margin for error.

Alarmingly, that bloke I knew who was a helicopter pilot said he got to know which of those he could get away with flying over the allowed weight :)

According to the tweet below (quoted on the post here), the driver hadn't done up the twistlocks at the front that fasten the container to the trailer - certainly seems like an error I would make (I keep leaving the oven on).
