The not particularly huge BMW has managed to be in four spaces, it's far enough back to be encroaching on the spaces behind.

Looks to be about the same amount of space in the cabin as the bm next to it too.

The polo was a medium sized family car when I was growing up.

And there lies a root cause of some of the PLAC instances. Not that I am excusing lazy, inconsiderate or inept driving but the spaces in most car parks were designed for that Polo generation where even the "fullsize" Passat was only slightly longer and minimally wider. The same pressure is placed on garage parking in homes - again most people fill theirs up with junk and kitchen overspill but the fact remains - cars now just don't fit.

I expect Phil will confirm but in North America the land-yacht sized parking spaces were gradually downsized in successive new mall and plaza developments as cars generally shrank at the beginning of the Eighties. Now, it seems, they need to start getting bigger again......
