After my first prang which was a bit boring I have a had a few more interesting ones but have been lucky so far and never had anything close to as bad as Bub's Escort. My second was in another Datsun 100a that I managed to take the side out of a mk2 cavalier CD with. The Cav was only a year or 2 old at the time and I took out every panel on the o/s. After that I managed to roll a Renault Fuego on the way home from the pub. Luckily a few other patrons turned up just after and helped to get it back on it's wheels so I could get home. I have also managed to roll a Landrover 109 in the snow and a Range Rover when pissed chasing rabbits around the fields. That was 20 odd years ago now and I am a reformed character now so haven't killed any motors in ages.

Yeah but ovlov 340s are wrong on every level! utterly shit cars in every way except the seats & even those are in fucking velour so not great.
I actually liked my variomatic if the carb issues weren't there. Poor idle and rough running with auto box made very interesting driving

I hated mine as you might guess. It didn't go, it didn't stop & it couldn't corner. Only thing it was good at was drinking fuel, it was a manual & barely broke 20mpg driven normally.

I'm sure you have said before, but was it a 1.7?

Dad had one post divorce for a very short while whilst he I imagine got his shit together. Then gave it to his to be new wife who ran it for 10 years, I only did three or four patches on it after he bought me my fist mig at 12. One under the fuse box as I recall was a right bastard.

That had the rubber band drive train too.
Just when I thought I was out they dragged me back in.

1.4 that ate pushrods for breakfast. I've driven several 1.7s too from when I worked at a dealers & I can confirm they are exactly as shit to drive, but get to the accident slightly earlier.

Never ate pushrods with all the 1400s I've had. People kept telling me the early B14.0E engine were prone to putting a leg out of bed and still never saw that either.

They do like OMGHGF if sat for ages and pressed into service. 1700s are wank because the carbs warp their bases, and foam floats go porous and soak up petrol and subsequently run like dog poo.

Both Renault engines that were slightly better built. That brings back memories of the 1.7's when they were new. We had a bit of steel pipe with a slot cut up the middle to slot over the throttle butterflies and give them a gentle tap to stop the butterflies sticking. It used to work well as it was normally the second chokes that stuck due to pottering around.

I hated my Volvo 340 1.4, it had no redeeming features whatsoever. Couldn't get it to run right, it was thirsty and slow. Handled badly but not even in a fun way. Ragged it round for a bit but something broke and it lost drive. Someone told me it was probably the aluminium propshaft but I didn't look or care, just towed it to the scrapyard. Utter shite.
I drove a tidy 1.7 a few years later, expecting it to be better but although that one ran well it was still an awful thing to drive.
I can find good in any car usually, no car is truly bad or so I thought but I have to make an exception for the Volvo 340.

Exactly how I feel about the awful damned things. The only good point was the seats where comfy, but only for sitting in, not for driving.
