I scrapped my Mk1 Polo as I just couldn't be arsed selling the fucker and I had a new job with a company car and only one parking space at my tiny house.

A while later I got a letter from DVLA asking if I objected to it being put back on the road - which of course I didn't.

I've only ever scrapped two cars. A MK2 Granada, because it didn't matter how many spanners I threw at it, the bastard still had something wrong with it. Final straw was when the heater matrix blew on the way home from work one morning, right on top of the Lodge Lane flyover at Barking. Blew steam up the screen and blanked it out. Seriously dangerous. I had it Hi-Abbed away after that.
Second was a Chrysler Voyager. Autobox went. 'Nuff said.
I've had some right pieces of shit in my time, but always managed to sell them whole to people more stupid than me.

I drove a 1976 Viva E to the scrapyard in 1990 because I was given it for free and I could just get £30 for fuck all.

I got a 1995 Polo 1.6 off a mong at work for fifty quid about ten years ago because he was sure the clutch was fucked and had bought something else. Picked it up,drove it straight to a VW breakers and got £150 for it. Nothing wrong with the clutch and it went like fuck down the lanes.

I scrapped a rotten Mk1 Combo a few years back. The first yard I drove in to, some Eastern European bloke ran over shouting they only paid £70 per ton so I drove out and went to the adjacent yard and got £230 for it.

My favourite from all the time I spent at Albert Looms was the time some bloke rolled up in a Mk1 Granny with some heap of shit on a crappy towrope behind. The bloke came out of the office and said "which one are you scrapping?"

I think by and large Albert Looms is still pretty much family run.
