Sometimes the only way of making sense of these decisions is to stump up and enjoy the thing for a bit....

I've just remembered another one, I had a nice old Talbot Samba as a winter car as my old 200SX was a bit lairy, the Samba only needed a backbox and drove fine, the mot was due and I couldn't be arsed spending 70 quid on a backbox and putting it through the test so I scrapped it for 20 quid.

I've only scrapped one car - that had munched it's high pressure diesel fuel pump and likely injectors+fuel rail sensors. So not trivial to scrap.

I'd say it's because I never buy broken and fucked cars. But as you all know, the reality is that I spend too much fixing them to contemplate throwing them away 😬

It's on the drive, I don't think it'd even fit through my garage door, let alone have room for me to get out once in there.

Never scrapped a car.
I’ve essentially given a few away.

I bought a Hyundai something or other FROM A STUDENT from a ‘mate’ for $500 with 200k miles on the clock and counting. Ran it for a winter (got it stuck on the ice on the lake and would have walked away if I wouldn’t have been fined) and swapped it for a bit of welding on another old car that I couldn’t be arsed to do.

I had a mk1 golf gti that I would loved to have seen mangled very slowly.

Everything went wrong on the bloody thing. A bit like triggers broom.
Some things (like the engine) even went twice. Needed a replacement engine - on test drive the oil pressure was low and I was too daft to read between the lines of ‘they all do that sir’, then when the water pump went it needed another rebuild. Shocks, radiator, exhaust, steering, put a new clutch in with the replacement engine. So many things that I’m struggling to remeber them all.

I got in to the situation where I had as much in on the repairs as I bought the damn thing for.

Sold it easily, as they were popular back then and the lucky bar-steward that bought it, told me that he can now see what they meant by VW longevity as it never ever went wrong.

Aye, because you'd fucking replaced everything! It was probably well-sorted car at that point.
However, it all sounds familiar. I've had the same. Spending shitloads on a car and it feels like it'll never end, so you sell it. However it's just after it's crested the point where it's actually a decent car due to almost everything critical on it being new, but you still hate it and just want rid of it.

I sent my 340 to the fire station so it could suffer first before getting fragged. The only other car I owned that got the same treatment was a Phase 1 Pug 305 estate.

I hated those Volvos and likely as not, the owners were cunts.
I've owned a 340 and a 440,both auto. The 340 was a dog. Couldn't get the thing to run right. A variomatic with an idle issue didn't make for good motoring in traffic. Bought it off as and sold it to someone from as. Dire on fuel too. I also resemble the cunt remark.

I've got form for scrapping shit. Usually when things push me over the edge. I'll buy a cheap car, spend a few hundred on getting it right and then weigh it in when it passes me off by being needy. Seen the error of my ways a little now. Owned the focus for 9 months and won't part with it until it falls to bits and it will then get sent over the bridge. Should see a few years from it though all being well.
