Given the choice of which motor I would feel safer in the E type beats that horrid heap that is the T2. Having driven both the E is certainly a lot more fun. If I could afford one I would have a series 1 1/2 4.2 fixed head, one of my customers used to have one and I did more miles in it than he did. The T2 is comically slow and had no redeeming features at all. I do think my hatred of them started when a mate asked me to drive his Beetle and it nearly killed me, fucking piece of shit lost the back end going round a bend at 20 which my Datsun could take at 50. Hateful aircooled shit.

I bet a lot of the mechanics who look after E types drive them more than their owners......I haven't driven one to be fair but 100mph as a passenger in a ragged early 4.2 coupe wasn't one of my better memories. It was fucking hanging, though.

When that V12 comes on song, its amazing, just holding onto the thin rimmed wheel, legs outstretched, the noise, the motion, the lack of vibration. Glorious.

I've had a good look around the NYC photo site. Fantastic idea and I wish a similar project could be undertaken with British cities as the subjects.....

As always my eye was soon directed towards street scenes and shite parked by the kerb. Found this Riley RMC roadster shot, it is one of the "outakes" so not sure of the location. Of course the RMC was essentially for Yanks - three abreast seating and column change wouldn't have gone down well in the Home Counties.

Thanks again to SiC for posting the link. There's an 80s section too for those who care.

Edit - the 80s section is presumably under construction (I thought that decade was an unfinished product...) and there are hardly any photos in it yet (or ever, dunno). However, the 1940s part is nothing short of fantastic. Imagine a Google Earth of the early WW2 period - it's damn close to being that. Basically, all of the City's archive photographs of buildings taken for taxation purposes have been placed into a clickable dot on a large-scale map. There's a search function too for street names, buildings etc. Bloody hell it's impressive.......

Last look at NYC for me tonight, as Squire has assumed, it is in danger of keeping me up....

Here's 61 Broadway, I worked in here a couple of times in the 80s - there is a lot I still recognise from this shot.
