I’ve solved the 1960’s 4x4 mystery! I think.
First some cars it’s not.

Not an I H Scout, even though the wipers are right and a couple of accounts from the time mention it and the Waggoner , along with th Bronco as inspiration.

Not a Land Cruiser. It seems those slant eyed Johnnies weren’t to be feared, or should they?

Mitsubishi? Jeeps under license , but looks more Shogun like than I thought they had in the 60’s

It’s a Patrol. From reading a couple of US reports on 60’s Patrols they were one of the most car like 4x4 s with light controls and a decent ride even though they were ladder chassis, live axles with leaf springs.

Wow the good old days when 4x4s where functional designs to go offroad. What went wrong?

The chattering classes decided that Jocasta and Tarquin would be safer being driven 100 yards to school in one and it'd be bigger than the other cars there?
