Late '52 Surrey reg. indicates that is probably one of the A Series change-over models before the new grilles, in which case if 38,000 miles has knackered the rings, he's clocked it! Wellworthy were a big employer in the New Forest (1800 workers with a total of 5000 across the South West) and I think there are still sports clubs using the name.
Couldn't place the garage but Mrs Rocker with her extra 10 years of Southampton memory tells me it was here, Church Road, Shirley just around the corner from where she was born.....
