Yes, I think Philips did one amongst others.

I think they used to use a weighted needle to prevent jumping, which had the effect of scratching the records to pieces; said records may also have been specific to the in-car players too. The eight track was a great improvement. Anyone else remember separate tape decks and CD players?

Yep, I've got a Pioneer autoreverse component deck that I got for my MG Metro in 1982 along with some pretty good amplifiers and a graphic equaliser, remember them? It’s currently in a box in my garage. This was in the ancient pre CD days.
