Pffft, the 340 was never marketed as being anything other than a dull, pedestrian car for the elderly, it was the Honda Jazz of its time. The 440 was much the same, I believe that production was scheduled to end but British farties couldn't stop buying them so Volvo carried on taking our money for a few more years.

I don't mind the 340 being dull but they are crap on fuel. For the amount they use you may as well get a decent car instead

That's because they weigh slightly more than a neutron star, which also explains why they can't go, stop or corner.

I have nothing against 340s themselves as I have never had any reason to be near one but they do symbolise to me the loss of DAF as an independent maker and of Volvo as a big old barge factory. I can certainly vouch for their giffer magetism when they were new....
