The Dark Wob

No photo as I was driving but I saw a camo one of these on Sunday, it was leaning precariously as it was navigating a bend on really skinny tyres.

In the road outside our house, just now.....

A saloon too! They look good these days compared to modern cars, strange isn't it as they were awful when they came out.

I never liked the look of the 5 doors with that fishtank hatch but yeah the saloons were a worthy continuation of what Ford began with the Cortina - a competent and sensible family car with a little of what everybody wanted.

I think time has been kind to them as well - certainly the progressively more gopping products released each year (it is now 3 decades ago, FFS!) make anything of this era look good....

I remember when they cam out. I was working on the Royal Quays bulding the estate at the time and the site manager had a brand new burgundy one. I got a lift in it for some reason and it seemed very high tech. Another plumber also ticked on a brand new M reg escort at the time. The seats in that were lovely velour. It must have been a posh spec.

I think they came out in 1992.
I also had a dodgy mate who's mother bought him a scrapyard, there were half a dozen down there at the time, at West Sleekburn. He got one in at two years old as the owners couldn't afford the repayments. He stripped it and crushed the shell.
It was good crack down there and you could always go down and rally the runners if you were bored. He was a nice bloke in reality but a massive alchy. He died two or three years ago from it. A few years younger than me too.

I remember he brought his lakeland terrier into the Clayton Arms in Bedlington (really rough as fuck and stank like a sewer).
I big bloke picked it up and held it to his face and made it squeal by squeezing it. Like lightening the terrier snapped him and less than half a second later his bottom lip was ripped down one corner about an inch and a half. He stood there in shock and fearing he was about to kill it I started shouting at him to put the fucking dog down. It took him about ten seconds (seemed a lifetime) but he did. He turned back to his pint. Everytime he took a drink the glass turned more red with blood. I said you really need to go to hospital but he never bothered.
This was the same cunt that if you went for a piss he'd put his false teeth in your pint. It wasn't uncommon in there for people to ream the lip of your glass with their cock.
The place was full of characters. I miss Bedlington at times.

Some modern toss pictured over the last couple of weeks. Not a massive fan of eighties Jap stuff but both the Hondas were almost mint. Pretty sure this was at the Moffat show last weekend,seen yesterday afternoon on its way back home presumably. And finally,my least favourite four-pot Farina but nonetheless I was still pleased to see one. Spoke to one of the neighbours (I was looking for an address,not just being nosy) and was told the owner's mother had bought it new.
