I seem to of done something stupid yet again

It looks like I might finally get the Renault 25 finished. Ever since I had it painted the ABS light has been on. It appears to be due to the state of the instrument panel. Lots of messing around with it just made it worse so I have got to the point of needing a replacement. After over a month of messing around I have now found a replacement in France that is being posted to me on Monday. Hopefully this will sort all the faults, I think the ABS light on was due to the oil light not coming on. I have been through the rest of the system and the only bit that didn't make sense was the lack of oil light. I will give it another good run out this weekend as I need to test the fuel gauge which now seems to work.

Well the "new" car has arrived and for a modern it isn't too bad. An interesting thing on this Renault Captur is the seat covers are zipped on. Quite handy really as it is a bit mucky inside due to the flood it went through. I don't think it has had much water inside if any but lots of muddy foot marks where they obviously got in and out of it whilst recovering it. Now the engine is another matter. Zero compression on all 3 cylinders. I had the top cover off and it looked like all the valves and chain were ok but now the engine is out and the head off the mystery deepens. The water in the intercooler and turbo is very clean which is a little strange. Now the timing chain cover is off the guide on the chain has worn badly and snapped. This has caused the chain to jump and bent all 6 exhaust valves. I wonder if someone has pulled a fast one on the insurance. It is a bit expensive to rebuild it and I now wouldn't trust the conrods so secondhand engine time.

Last owner upset someone at the local hand wash?

I don't know how much insurers cover flooding a car in deep water nowadays. I did read that a lot of those flooding their cars in the ford near Derby weren't covered as an entirely avoidable accident.

It's been a while since my last silly purchase but seeing the back of the Jensen released some funds for another project. It's not too bad really one very fucked o/s outer sill and a possible head gasket so far.

Same engine as my P4 iirc? Or at least similar but enlarged. Certainly looks familiar.

Not going to be difficult to do a head gasket if it comes to it. Do these need hardened valve seats or are they ok if you keep an eye on the valve clearances?

You probably already know but the water pump studs can be a bastard if you need to remove the water pump.

It has a weird chuffing noise that I thought might of been a loose spark plug. I checked compressions and they are all about the same so not sure what it is. I might just whip the head off and have a look.
