The problem with bringing the Edsel here is that they tend to be a bit of a tougher sell than the equivalent Fords or Mercurys. '58 is the one to have though, they started to water them down after the first less than illustrious year's figures. Check out that speedo and gearshifter on the wheel boss!

Love the Edsel, well I would wouldn't I? What engine does it have, the 361 or 410? The 361 is a Ford FE motor, easy to get parts for, the 410 is a version of the 430 Lincoln-Mercury, might be a tad more difficult for parts. Saying that with bad floors and sills what else is it hiding, could well be a money pit.

I think I am going to give the Edsel a miss but who knows the price might drop enough to take a chance. I picked the Jensen up this morning but no photo's as I only had my phone with me and that put the pictures on here upside down so you will have to wait. What idiot designs an engine and mounts a points distributor under the inlet manifold so you have to take either the manifold off or the distributor out to gap the points. I will ring distributor doctor on monday and get an electronic set up for it so I can get it going.

I have ordered a few bits up to get it running which I will hopefully do either friday or saturday depending on work. I have run in to a bit of a problem with the Buick now as the DVLA have asked for an inspection and upon looking at it properly the vin tag is dodgy and after removing the front wing to find the stamped number it doesn't match the paperwork so its a fucking ringer. I will have to see what the inspection guy says about it next week. Fucking American cars !

Personally I would ensure there is only 1 set of numbers visible by putting the wing back on, does the tag match the title and have you done a car fax enquiry on the other number?

I tried Carfax on the number on the title and no records come up probably due to the age. They only started stamping frames in 1953 so it is a bit of a nightmare. The plate on the door pillar is just a piece of steel with the number very badly stamped in it. I could stamp the frame by the master cylinder and refit the wing to hide the other one.

Once it's got plates on and take a picture to put on this thread, a Google image search on that reg number will bring someone right here. I often Google reg numbers when looking at/for cars to see what sort of history comes up. It's how I found my MG Midget was featured in Practical Classics 1993.
