I do wonder if some of these dealers overprice as it's effectively a personal collection that is paid for by business money. Prices are sufficient that if someone really wanted to pay for it, they'd sell.

The classic car garage that I used to live around the corner from I'm pretty sure was like that too. Fair amount of shiny metal in the forecourt windows but very rarely sold. He even goes to the effort of carting them up to the NEC Classic Car Show and having a stand. Also think they're partially an advert for the garage side of the business too.

Eleven grand for the velox? That is a house deposit.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

Most likely this.

Having said that dealers are a funny lot, there is one with a stock of minty Volvo 740/940/960 estates which are all up at £5-6k and they've been up for months and months when decent examples usually sell for £2-3k.

He'll be sitting on them a looooong time if they're an investment.

That was a weird model wasn't it, they made a lot of substantial changes like bigger windows then only produced it for less than a year. The rear lights are one change for the worse in order to accommodate an amber lens. Similar to what happened on the Minor. I like these motors all the same and though the price is too stiff for me I'd guess that anything this rare would be pricier without the Vaux badge.

Yes, it is a runout model to which they fitted the new PA series engine. Personally I prefer the improved rear lights, they were always a strange bit of sculpture on these cars being deeply recessed, but you get the best of both worlds.

Vauxhall seemed to have had a habit of going to the expense of totally updating a car and then dropping the model after a year - 1961 Victor F Series is another which was completely revised for one year only.

Here's one on Cunt & Cash-it:

I would like a 1957 model in black with brown upholstery and a 1961 model in dark blue with blue upholstery. I viewed examples from each year but nothing came of it. They were progressively improved as the years went by, but the mechanical engineering and design concept was good to begin with.

My mum's best friend used to have a late one in what I used to refer to as Banana Split - two-tone brown and yellow. Sienna and Jonquil or something flowery. She got a company Avenger from Tupperware and parked the Vicky in our drive until it could be sold. I begged the old man to buy it but he got a putty-coloured Minx (not even a De Luxe or 1725) instead.

The very last ones all seemed to have rectangular, instead of square number plates - this one did.

They must have missed the decimal point, £79.95 would be pushing it for that.
