Re: The Worlds gone mad!
The issue I have with new batteries (aside from failing in record time) is that an 038, staple of old British cars, is a pathetic 35 A/h when the car specifies 45 A/h minimum.

Just measure the maximum size you can have and order the biggest CCA you can get to those dimensions. Ignore the recommendations

049 (also 057) battery will give you 45Ah. Tad over 3/4 inch taller, so watch out for the bonnet.

Have a google for tayna they’re in Stockport but do 99% web sales on eBay.
If you call and ask if they have any cosmetics in your size (basically items people who can’t choose the right battery have sent back. Usually overnight delivery too. I bought an 093 with a few years warranty and a scratch for £30 odd delivered.
It’s been on a year and started the car in -14 so it’s ok.
Less annoying tag line.

Just when I thought I was out they dragged me back in.

I've bought a few normal ones from them by mail order.
Good prices and quick delivery, you can sometimes find discount codes for them on the web as well.

Motor factors here are happily and helpfuly open.
I always buy the biggest battery that will fit in the space. Never consider where the terminals are. After all, there is nothing easier to make up than a longer battery cable.

Re: The Worlds gone mad!
Good luck making a longer battery cable for a modern car with a battery sensor on one of the terminals! Or even less modern cars with fuses on the terminals, designed to fit in a particular place in the battery bay.

Re: The Worlds gone mad!
I have a Tayna battery on my AMC. I robbed the battery off the ZT one time and found it would fit so ordered the same as a replacement. Definitely recommended.
For my Ma’s C-Max it needed the special battery due to stop/start being fitted - checked local motor factor and loads online, in the end Halfrauds were about half the price of anywhere else.
Edit : the Halfruds Batt was the exact spec and decent make.

Re: The Worlds gone mad!
I had to replace both batteries on my E Class last week . The one in the boot is just a little motorbike thing that you’d pay £35/40 for IF it was for a bike . I ended up paying £95 at Euros, because I’m paranoid about modern cars needing the exact specification of battery,
The big fucker unde the bonnet was looking like £250/300 even from Tanya or whatever she’s called. My mate called Mercedes Main dealer and with his trade discount it was only £155 ! Sometimes parts pricing makes no sense whatsoever.
In general though, I find stuff so easy to get online that I don’t miss grumpy old fuckers in Parts places taking the piss on prices . In fact I rarely miss the good old days at all.
