Is the weather as variable as I think it is?
It's almost like you have all the seasons compressed into a month or so.

Pretty much. We get autumn, winter and spring rolled into about 3 weeks, the rest of the year is Bloody Hot.

Took the alternator bracket apart, again. Moved it slightly forward and altered the tilt a little. It's now running true (the angle that was shot at makes it look wonky).
Still noisy. I think I'll change the type of belt for one that's not ribbed for cooling on the inner edge, that's what's making the noise.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
I bought some LED bulbs to brighten the rear lights up a little.
Camera is the destroyer of red lights, but you can see on the ground how much light they put out.
They do make the light illuminate a little unevenly due to how low they sit in the bulb holder.
Compared to the moderns in the fleet, they're now comparable, which is a good thing being at they're so tiny.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Thought about it for a while and pulled one of the bulbs out.
I scuffed the lens down with low-grit paper to diffuse the light a little.
Much more satisfactory light distribution. Did the other side too.

There's a projector type lens in the top with 3 LED chips underneath.I scuffed the lens down with low-grit paper to diffuse the light a little.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Good shout on the scuff-age.....I've reluctantly gone over to LED for the rears on the Morrises, partly for increased visibility in poor conditions (especially braking) but mainly because the greatly reduced load on the brake-light circuit (plus added relay) will hopefully conserve the switches for longer than a year. Replacing them (they are in the fluid circuit) is a pain in the arse.
I also had LEDs in my trailer caravan running lights as it meant I could continue to use the car's original flasher units without slowing down the blink rate.

There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Your lights are smaller than mine! You need a sky searchlight bright light mounted in yours, particularly if they still have the old dark crimson glass in.
These ones are not bad actually with the lens and LED chips in the top, they throw a significant amount of light directly backwards and are actually stubbier than a regular bulb!
